For three decades, our location and operators have maintained one of the longest uninterrupted perfect skydive safety records in America, and the longest in California.
Original founders began in 1996, this location has operated over 30 years with:
• Zero fatalities
• No major tandem or student injuries
• No compromises to safety procedures over time
Our approach to skydive safety is built on consistency, experience, and conservative decision-making over time. This record isn’t the result of luck, selective storytelling, or a short operating window. It is the product of consistency.
The same conservative decisions made the same way, year after year, across changing equipment, aircraft, weather cycles, and hundreds of thousands of jumps.
Most skydiving centers are very safe. Some are exceptionally safe.
Very few have proven it over decades.
Our perfect skydive safety record spans 30 years of tandem skydiving operations without a single fatality or major student injury. That level of continuity is rare in any high-consequence activity, and especially rare in skydiving.
Longevity matters because time exposes weaknesses. Equipment changes. Staff changes. Volume fluctuates. Weather patterns change and then repeat. What holds up through all of that is not a claim. It’s a system that refuses to drift.
This consistency places Skydive Monterey Bay among the safest skydiving operations in the United States and at the top in California. This is why Skydive Monterey Bay is widely regarded as one of the safest skydive centers in California and the United States.
Most skydiving centers never reach the point where a decades-long safety record is even possible. Over time, safety margins tend to erode due to:
• Instructor turnover
• Operational shortcuts
• Pressure to fly in marginal conditions
• Volume being prioritized over consistency
A strong safety record isn’t built in a single season. It’s built by repeating conservative decisions even when there is no immediate incentive to do so.
Shortcuts compound quickly. Discipline compounds longer.
A safety record is not protected by a single factor. It’s protected by reinforced layers.
Every tandem instructor at Skydive Monterey Bay holds nationally recognized tandem certifications. Beyond that baseline, our team represents decades of combined experience.
• Minimum of 2,000 jumps per instructor
• Most instructors exceed 4,000 jumps
• Several instructors with 10,000+ jumps
• Senior instructors with 30+ years in the sport and more than 18,000 jumps
This level of experience reduces variability. Less variability produces predictable outcomes.
Predictability is the foundation of long-term safety.
Modern tandem skydiving systems are intentionally redundant. At Skydive Monterey Bay, that redundancy is treated as a baseline, not a selling point.
Every tandem skydive uses:
• A primary parachute
• A fully independent reserve parachute
• An Automatic Activation Device that continuously monitors altitude and descent rate
Redundancy exists so that no single failure can define the outcome. Long safety records depend on systems where layers overlap rather than rely on perfection.
Aircraft safety is a meaningful part of overall skydiving safety.
Skydive Monterey Bay operates a twin-engine Super King Air 200, the only twin-engine turbine skydiving aircraft in the SF Bay Area. Twin-engine capability adds an additional margin of redundancy and predictability. Margins matter most in situations that never make headlines. That’s where safety records are preserved.
Long safety records are incompatible with a “just squeeze one more in” mentality. At Skydive Monterey Bay, operational decisions prioritize consistency over maximizing daily jump numbers. If conditions aren’t right, operations pause. If something feels off, it gets addressed. Your safety, and ours, matters more than jump volume, speed or scale.
Skydive Monterey Bay specializes almost exclusively for our first-time tandem skydiving students.
Industry-wide, most skydiving incidents involve experienced solo jumpers performing advanced maneuvers under small, high-performance parachutes. That environment carries different variables and different risks.
Our focus on tandem skydiving means:
• Large, stable parachutes
• Conservative flight profiles
• Highly experienced instructors on every jump
• Fewer variables in the air
Reducing variables is one of the most effective ways to protect long-term outcomes.
A long, proven safety record means:
• Procedures are well-tested
• Decisions aren’t improvised
• Equipment systems are deeply familiar to the people using them
• Every jump follows a structure refined over decades, not weeks
You’re not stepping into an experiment.
You’re stepping into an operation that has done this consistently for 30 years.
A safety record isn’t something you declare once. It’s something you protect every day.
At Skydive Monterey Bay, safety decisions are made before customers arrive, before aircraft are fueled, and before the door ever opens. That discipline is what allows a safety record to endure. And if conditions aren’t right on your scheduled day, we’ll wait until they are.
That’s how long safety records are built.
