Skydiving Package Features

  • Freefall

    Freefall

The primary factor that influences freefall time (or length) is the exit (jump) altitude. Because tandem skydiving pairs open their parachutes at roughly the same altitude on all skydives, the higher you exit the aircraft the longer you can freefall. With an opening altitude of 5000 feet, a 10,000 foot jump translates to about 30 seconds of freefall, while an 18,000 foot jump enables a freefall of up to 90 seconds!

  • Parachute Flight (4-6 minutes)

    Parachute Flight

During tandem skydive jumps, instructors open the parachutes at about 5500 feet above the ground. Regardless of exit altitude, parachute descents will all be between 4-6 minutes. Descent times vary based upon the opening altitude, suspended weight under the parachute and the flying style (lots of turning means faster descent).

  • Scenic Monterey Bay Airplane Flight

    Scenic Airplane Flight

Our climb to jump altitude is a gorgeous ascent over the Monterey Bay providing great views of Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, and Santa Cruz.

  • Training Session

    Training

Your instructor will gear you up and train you (and all of the students that he/she is jumping with) in a group session. If you have come with friends, most of the time you will be on the same flight. As such, you will be split up during the training as each student is geared and trained by their own instructor.

  • Equipment Rental

    Equipment Fitting

We’ll fit you in a specially designed tandem skydive harness and provide goggles for your jump. All the equipment required to make your first skydive is included in the price of the jump.

  • Facilities Tour

    Extra Access Tour

Special VIP, airplane access tour within our operation, including an introduction to the gear used on the skydive, provided by a Skydive Monterey Bay instructor.

  • Priority Boarding

    Priority Boarding

Provides eligibility for the first available flight once registration is completed, ultimately reducing wait times.

  • Skydive Certificate

    Skydive Certificate

We provide a First Jump Certificate after you have completed your jump (as well as some incentives for future jumps and information on getting your skydive license).

  • Gear Store Gift

    Gear Store Gift

Gear store gifts could include a personalized framed diploma, T-shirt, or Skydive Monterey Bay swag bag.

* Please note that Skydive Monterey Bay applies a 6% Airport Improvement Fee on all flight related services.

18,000 Foot Exclusive Extras

The World's Highest Skydive

An 18,000 foot first jump is the unicorn of skydiving experiences. This is the Mt Everest of freefalls, the Iditarod of parachuting, the Coachella of extreme adventures. Considering only a handful of skydiving centers in the world jump at this high of an altitude (none as close to the beach and ocean as Skydive Monterey Bay), this is the very best first skydiving experience.

Your first jump is a tandem skydive. Our tandem instructor team will brief
you on the entire tandem skydiving process. The short version is you’ll be attached to your instructor during the entire skydive enabling you to participate and enjoy skydiving while having a professional, highly experienced, and certified instructor at the helm. Our instructors are rated by the United States Parachuting Association and other national skydiving regulatory bodies.

At 18,000 feet above the ground, you’ll exit the aircraft with your instructor. For one and a half minutes, you will experience zero gravity weightlessness, free from the limitations of everyday life. Despite falling at 120 mph, for a glorious 90 seconds you will weightlessness and an incredible surge of dopamine and other blissful neurochemicals.

Your instructor will open the parachute at a predetermined altitude. Most
jumpers find this to be a zen, scenic and very enjoyable part of the jump. Provided conditions allow, we usually allow the students to try flying a parachute.

Understanding Skydiving Pricing in California

We’ve already compared the cost of skydiving near San Francisco and ultimately
determined that the average cost of skydiving in California is about $280 per person.

This may come as a surprise but California skydiving centers are on par for skydiving costs with most regions of the United States despite significantly higher fuel costs and land costs. While our ocean view skydives are amongst the very best, most skydive centers in California offer better views than the rest of the country.

Skydiving centers are facing rising input costs. Many California skydiving centers are working diligently to continue to offer the lowest skydiving prices possible. But just like commercial airlines,
some skydiving centers are better positioned to hold the line on their pricing.

Skydive Monterey Bay is very well-positioned to continue to offer the best high altitude skydive pricing in the Bay Area. A few ways that we’re able to manage input costs for skydiving include:

Airplanes

We are not subject to aircraft lessors, many of whom are raising prices. Our Super King Air 200 is the fastest skydiving airplane in the world. It is extremely efficient, meaning that we can minimize and manage the largest input cost for skydiving.

Fuel

The price for Jet-A fuel in California has more than doubled from in the past couple of years. Fuel prices in California are the highest in the country and continue to be a challenge.

Fortunately, our aircraft is very efficient with fuel burn during our flights. That has helped to keep costs low over the years despite fuel costs almost quadrupling over the past decade.

Maintenance

There are no shortcuts or lean processes for aircraft and gear maintenance. Aircraft maintenance is regulated by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), and skydiving gear maintenance by the United States Parachute Association (USPA).

Fortunately, we have strategic partnerships with both aircraft maintenance facilities and skydive gear riggers (certified personnel by the FAA & USPA for skydive gear maintenance) enabling us to go above and beyond regulatory requirements at reduced industry rates.

Staff

It takes a full team to run a skydiving center. Highly professional pilots, instructors, parachute packers, ground crew, and office staff. Most of our team members earn above the industry average. Between that, and the attraction of the Monterey Bay area, we’re able to staff a fantastic crew.

Overhead

We need a place to store our beautiful aircraft and prepare and pack our skydiving equipment. As a skydiving center that focuses on first jump experiences, we don’t require an excessive footprint for experienced, licensed skydivers. While we welcome them, our 30,000 square foot facility is set up to focus on first-time skydivers and new jumpers.

We further reduce overhead costs by distribution. We’re the only Bay Area skydiving center that is open seven days per week, 365 days a year. We do more jumps, over more days than most of the skydiving centers in the area so we’re able to reduce those costs for each individual.

Cost vs. Value

Ultimately skydiving isn’t a low-price experience. But, of all the biggest, most memorable events of your life, it is probably the cheapest.

It’s surprisingly easy to forget spending $300 on clothing, electronics, or some other thing, a year, or even a couple of months after purchasing it. But we know from experience that no one forgets their first skydive!

For such a big life experience, it is worth driving a few extra minutes and spending a few extra dollars for the best first skydive experience possible. High altitude jumps and the best skydive ocean views are going to be a huge factor in creating a five-star skydive experience.

Warnings for An Advertised Low Price to Skydive

Most of the Bay Area skydiving centers (and most in the United States) are fantastic operations. Most are in line with the average cost of a skydive in California.

So, if you see a skydive advertised for a significantly lower than the average price to skydive, confirm the service you’re getting. As we’ve outlined every skydive center in California is facing cost constraints so consider a comparatively cheap skydive means it’s worthwhile to check the fine print. To offer a cheap price for skydiving, the operator may be jumping from a lower altitude or adding extra, costly upgrades, or undue delays that ultimately bring your dollars spend close to the average skydive pricing.

Skydive Monterey Bay doesn’t intend to change skydiving prices based on day of the week (although expect a longer experience time on weekends) or time of day. We post our prices for skydiving with our standard altitude jump so you know exactly what experience you’re buying.

We are transparent in our pricing, even providing a tool to compare our prices to other skydiving operators. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Skydiving Pricing Questions FAQ

How do your prices compare to other California skydiving prices?

For high-altitude skydives, Skydive Monterey Bay has the best skydiving prices for any San Francisco area skydiving center. We guarantee that we have the best skydiving prices for high-altitude jumps.

Comparing apples to oranges, our high altitude skydives are the same price for other lower altitude skydives. And comparatively, we are more affordable than any other standard altitude skydiving near the Bay Area. What isn’t comparable are the magical visuals during your iconic Monterey Bay ocean view skydive.

How can you offer the highest skydives at around the same rate or less expensive as standard or low altitude skydives?

It has become increasingly challenging to offer cheap skydives near San Francisco, let alone our high-altitude jumps.

Skydive Monterey Bay is the only Bay Area skydiving center that is purpose-built to provide the best first skydiving experience. This means doing the world’s highest jumps every day, jumping at a location that provides incredible skydive views close to the ocean and beach.

Our aircraft, and our continued strategic partnerships with our long-standing crew, aircraft and gear maintenance providers enable us to hold our prices relatively constant even with increasing costs within the skydiving industry. Our talented and professional instructors continue to provide an extremely high quality and safe skydiving experience.

Ultimately, the biggest reason we can rock the high skies at such a value is our airplane. Our Super King Air 200 is the fastest skydiving airplane in the world. Its efficiency enables us to fly jumpers to 18,000 feet more cost-effectively than other skydiving airplanes only flying to 10,000 to 13,000-feet.

What is your refund policy?

We employ a fair and transparent refund policy for skydiving services based on standard aviation and skydiving industry refund and cancelation policies.

Deposits and payments made are non-refundable. Flight credits/vouchers will be issued for the amount paid. Flight credits never expire. They are transferable but are non-combinable. Flight credits will remain on your account and will be available to use whenever you are ready to skydive.

Advance Booking Deposits ($50) are required to make an advance reservation and are non-refundable. Changes to your reservation are possible up until 24 hours before your jump with no penalty. No shows or requested changes less than 24 hours before your jump will result in a forfeited deposit. This is standard instructor compensation for no-show bookings.

Walk-Ins/No Advance Reservation: Reservations are highly recommended however, are not required. Please call to get our updated walk-in rates and updated class schedules prior to arrival. Best for traveling first time jumpers who need a flexible schedule.

In-Store Payments: Money paid will remain on account or the equivalent jump value will be issued as a Flight Voucher. Payments made directly to the Current Operator are handled under the Current Operator’s Terms and Conditions. This statement does not apply automatically to payments made to a prior legal operator using the Skydive Monterey Bay trade name.

What special perks are included in the 18,000 foot VIP package?

As the premier first skydive option, we offer some extra perks for those that want some special access. Special perks such as unlocking deals on your skydive video and pictures packages, gear store gifts, priority boarding, and behind-the-scenes facilities tours are only available with the 18,000-foot VIP package.

How come I can’t access special perks with a 15,000 foot jump?

A 15,000-foot skydive is pretty awesome as far as skydiving goes, but we reserve limited VIP packages to 18,000 foot skydivers.

Our 15,000-foot skydive is the best-priced jump in its altitude range. Compare it to the other Bay Area skydiving centers and you’ll notice that it is typically more affordable than any other low altitude (10,000-13,000 foot) jumps.

Regardless of altitude choice, you’ll have the same stellar skydiving ocean views that only Skydive Monterey Bay jumpers experience.

What does Priority Boarding mean?

Priority Boarding provides access to the first available flight of the day (or of all groups in your arrival time). You’ll have a “Fast Pass” to the first available flight and will be the first group of jumpers to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

As winds, clouds and fog are usually more likely to build as the day gets longer, Priority Boarding provides the opportunity to be on the earliest flights. It’s quite rare that if we start jump operations, we are not able to fly every flight. But occasionally, the skydiving forecast changes rapidly, forcing us to suspend flight operations for the remainder of the day due to safety precautions. Priority Boarding ensures that you’ll be on one of those first flights.

* Please note that this does not mean you can arrive at any time and be on the next flight. You must arrive at your scheduled time, and if so, you will be scheduled on the first flight possible.

Priority Boarding is a feature that is exclusive to the 18,000-foot VIP package.

Do you offer skydiving discounts?

We do not offer discounts on skydives. We do, however, give you 5000-8000 feet of freefall for free! We have bundled every bit of value and excellence into our no-haggle fair skydive pricing.

We are the premier California skydiving center for first-time jumpers. We do the highest skydiving in California (from 18,000 feet) every day at the same rates as lower, standard altitude (10,000 – 13,000 feet) jumps at other skydiving centers.

You can be certain that you’re getting the best skydiving prices for high altitude jumps with our High Altitude Price Match Guarantee. The skydive ocean view is included for free.

Can I upgrade my jump on the day of my booking?

Yes, of course. We are the only Bay Area skydiving center to offer an 18,000-foot skydive on every flight with no additional restrictions or no minimums. So, if you thought a 15,000-foot jump was pretty high when you were booking, it’s super easy for us to bump you up to the top floor ride.

With about 98% of jumpers choosing the world’s highest tandem skydive option, upgrading to the 18,000-foot jump is quite probable. Embrace the adventure and fully YOLO your first-ever human-powered flight.

Can I add video and pictures?

Yes. We will review our skydiving video and picture package services with you when you check in on the day of your jump. Example angles and expected shots, and a full description of the media package and prices will be presented to ensure you get the right skydive video and pictures package.

Hot Tip: This is the place to get professional skydiving video and pictures! Our location provides an incredibly beautiful visual backdrop. Monterey is consistently voted as one of the most beautiful places to visit in California, and our skydiving center is the closest to the ocean.

Can I use a gift card to book?

Yes, you can use a gift card to make a booking by phone or online.

By phone, please call 831-384-3483, and advise us of your gift card details. While no deposit is required for gift card bookings via phone we do require a credit card number to secure the booking. It will only be charged a deposit fee ($50/person) if you do not show up for your reservation on time, or make a change with less than 24 hours advance notice.

Our online booking system can redeem eligible gift cards issued through the Current Operator’s booking platform. If a card does not validate online, please contact us before booking so we can verify the issuing entity and transaction record. Compatibility with the online system does not, by itself, determine validity or eligibility.

Can I book online?

You can check availability or book your skydive online anytime up to 48 hours in advance.

For bookings within less than 48 hours, please call us at 831-384-3483 for availability. For same day or next day availability, please call.

What is the Airport Improvement Fee?

Skydive Monterey Bay applies a 5% Airport Improvement Fee to the price for skydiving and flight related services to fund airport improvement and facilities projects, and to offset facilities usage fees.

We continue to improve our operations and find ways to maximize our efficiency so that we can continue to provide great skydive pricing without sacrificing anything from the premier first jump experience in the Bay Area.

Are there sales taxes on my jump?

No, do not collect a state or local sales tax for our skydiving and parachuting lessons.

We do collect a 5% Airport Improvement Fee on flight related services to fund facilities and airport improvement projects.
